Happy 4/20! Colorado was the first state in the nation to legalize recreation marijuana, back in 2012. While many predicted a dramatic increase in crime, the opposite has in fact been the case, proving many of the same lessons of alcohol prohibition back in the 1920’s and early 30’s. Making something illegal doesn’t end the demand for a product. Quite the opposite. Now that pot can be purchased as easily as a bottle of wine and for the same price, the need for illegal distribution channels and organized crime have greatly diminished. States from as far east as Maine and Massachusetts and as far west as Washington, Oregon and California have all legalized recreation marijuana with similar results as the infographic below from Daniel M. Murphy demonstrate. If your state has marijuana legalization on the next ballot, we urge you to vote yes on legalization.
