January 28th is Data Privacy Day. What you do online, even in Las Vegas, stays online…. forever! No one wants pictures of themselves drunk shared with their boss. Most of us don’t want our political posts spread to our coworkers, half of whom will always disagree with us no matter which side of the aisle we associate with. The data we share online, through various websites can not only embarrass but bankrupt us. We bank online. We pay our bills online. Many websites keep our deepest darkest secrets. All of this information can be used against us to create identity theft, run up bills on our accounts, empty our bank accounts, or lose us the job or college entrance we so covet.
The dangers of privacy and security are even more important for businesses who collect and must do all they can to protect this information from falling into the hands of hackers and cyber thieves.
