With Black Friday approaching, we thought we would take a look back at last year’s Black Friday. While we are on record as abhorring opportunist retailers forcing associates to cut their Thanksgiving’s short by opening early, it seems a number of retailers have caught on to this nonsense and have actually gone the other direction, by letting people know they are closed on Thanksgiving, or in the case of REI, actually staying closed on Black Friday to encourage their associates to enjoy the outdoors…exactly what they sell. Early returns from Black Friday 2015, show a significant 10% decline in sales as people choose not to participate in the crowded madness that often accompanies special Black Friday deals. We were particularly disturbed this past year with a video showing a woman yanking a box out of the arms of a toddler on Black Friday. Nevertheless, in the end, the online community paid a lot of attention to Black Friday as shown in this infographic from the folks at Datarank. How do you think Black Friday will shape up this year?
