In the world of SEO and site ranking, there is a term called authority. What is it? It is exactly what the definition implies. Websites are ranked by authority. Which website would you think has more authority? Website A, with 5 other websites linking to it, or website B that has 500 other websites linking to it? Obviously the more websites that link to your website, the more authority your website has. Here is the tricky part however. Unscrupulous folks have tried to game the system by buying and selling links. This obviously skews the results in a way that isn’t organic, and search engines will now not only not count those known links, but in some cases will devalue them and your website for having them.
