Search Engine Optimization has come a long way since search engines first started cataloging the internet. Back in 1998, when Google first launched, it was processing roughly 10,000 searches a day. By 2012, that number had grown slightly to 38,000 queries per second for about 1.2 trillion a year. Google’s algorithm has some 500 improvements and tweaks annually to try and deliver a better product as well as combat those who would take advantage of the search engine to artificially improve their rankings. Here is an infographic put together by the folks at MediaVision showing some of the highlights and changes to SEO over the last 20 years as we move into 2015.
