Every new technological leap can both help and harm. The internet opened up a world of information it would take eons to catalogue and put that information at our fingertips. At the same time, many of us forgot how to read, research, or even use common cents. The phrase “I saw it on the internet” is now a punchline for gullibility. Just because something is in print online doesn’t make it true. For example, I am over 6 feet tall, I just said it and therefore when I measure myself, I am still just 5’8″. In all seriousness however, the internet has allowed to search for knowledge that a generation ago was known only to those specially trained. Today we can try and grasp ideas and concepts we might never have been exposed to just 20 years ago. We now research our own health to try and live healthier and help our doctors diagnose better.

Mobile phones have made life infinitely easier and ultimately more complicated too. We now have more eyestrain and stiff necks from our texting and emailing on these small handheld devices. At the same time however, they have opened up a new world in how we manage our own health as outlined in this infographic from Allied Health World.
