For anyone who already does e-commerce and for anyone contemplating doing e-commerce, one of the biggest obstacles for any shopping site to overcome is shopping cart abandonment. Surely we’ve all looked at one site or another over the years, put an item or two into the shopping basket, only to leave the site without buying. Did you know the shopping cart abandonment runs as high as practically 70% of all potential transactions? Think about your neighborhood grocery store. What might it be like if 2 out of every 3 shoppers walking up and down the aisles putting meat, milk, mangoes, and munchies walked away from their carts just before hitting one of the cash registers? There are of course a number of very legitimate reasons for shopping cart abandonment both online and in real life. Most online causes however have little to do with a sick child or this afternoon’s crummy lunch. They are often very correctable items. According to this infographic from Milo, those businesses who survey their customers over shopping cart abandonment can take steps to increase sales, once they better understand their customers.
