Seems that for as long as there has been a commercial online service there have been banner ads. Do they work? They must in one way or another or they would have gone the way of the 14.4 modem. How well they work is another story. Just like a print ad, TV or radio spot, the effectiveness of the banner ad has as much to do with the design and offer as it does with where it is placed. Unfortunately, many of the mediums who could profit most from banner ads, relegate them to a secondary status where they are pushed outside the area of key interest diminishing their effectiveness.
