Last week the 27th anniversary of the dot com came and went. I’m sure most of you went to elaborate dot com parties dressed as your favorite URL. In all seriousness, the 27th anniversary of the first .com was not huge event other than it signifies how much the world has changed over the past quarter century. As an example, it took close to three years for the first 100 .com’s to be registered. In contrast, there are over 100,000 .com names registered every day now.  Great names once as available as sand on a beach now fetch anywhere from hundreds of thousands to millions of dollars. Check out this infographic from statista for some great information on the venerable dot com.
