Just about anything we spend time doing can be considered a waste of time. From busy-work in the office to television, from collecting stamps to the newest thing we all seem to be involved with, social media. In point of fact, social media is far more than finding out what a friend is having for dinner or what someone thinks of the newest episode of their favorite TV show. Social media sells products, sells companies, moves countries, and even helps people find jobs. Over 40% of the class of 2011 used social media for their job search. Americans spent over 53 billion minutes on Facebook alone in 2011. Sure, most of that time was spent keeping up with friends and family, but a lot of that time was also spent informing, educating, and producing. Here is an infographic from schools.com showing why social media isn’t a waste of time.
