For months now everyone in technology has speculated about what Apple would be releasing this fall. A new iPhone 5? A iPad3? Turns out Apple redid the popular iPhone 4 with more inside to like than outside. While the rumor mill had everyone hoping for a sleek new design with curved glass, the iPhone 4 keeps it’s flat look with the rounded corners. Available in both black and white from day one on October 14th, this new 4S features a dual core A5 chip, an 8 megapixel camera that records in full 1080p high definition, and a new antenna system.
It’s on the software side where this phone really shines however. Siri, the artificial intelligence company Apple purchased last year will be your digital Assistant. Want to find a romantic Italian restaurant? With your voice, just ask…and Siri will comb through review sites and web sites to come up with just about anything you ask for. Want to make a reservation there? Instruct Siri to do so, and it will comb the online reservation sites to do just that for you. Check the weather, showtimes, stocks, or even compose or listen to your text messages with Siri. Siri even comes with voice recognition, to even better personalize the user experience. This in and of itself could radically change how we interact with our mobile phones and both Google and Microsoft have a lot of catching up to do in regards to this feature.
The new iPhone 4S also comes with a new facial recognition software that can pick people out of groups. While there are some privacy concerns one way with this software, there are some real advantage possibilities too, like the possibility of using the front camera to verify you are you when using your cell phone to pay with some future NFC credit system, or changing display profiles based on who might be using the phone or perhaps tablet when integrated into the new iPad 3. The new iPhone 4S will feature a new and updates iOS with over 200 new features added over the previous iOS, including a new combined message center and very tight Twitter integration.
What doesn’t the new 4S have? 4G. Users wanting a 4G Apple phone might have to wait for the iPhone 5.
The new Apple iPhone 4S will be available at AT&T, Verizon, and now Sprint, starting October 14th. Will you be getting one or are you wanting for something else?
