When we take a step back and think about one of the major factors in the internet’s rise, we have to acknowledge the contributions of porn. People were freed from seedy downtown theatres to explore at their own leisure in the privacy of their own homes (or in many cases offices). Here is an infographic from Search Engine Journal on some of the contributions the porn industry has helped pioneer as well as some of the fun facts such as looking at the states who on the surface seem to be the most puritan being the states where pornography and sex are the most searched terms online, which goes to the lessons learned from Prohibition…you can’t outlaw desire.
