One of the trepidations for many in embracing geolocation apps such as Foursquare or Yelp and even saying much on Facebook, is the risk of being robbed. It is not an unfounded fear. Burglars have also embraced the web and social media in casing their intended targets. In a recent discussion with a Denver police lieutenant, he suggested people with nice cars not leave their registration in those cars. He stated burglars break into the cars close to restaurants, not so much for items within the car, but to find out where the owners live, knowing they will have an hour plus of undisturbed time while the home owners are enjoying their meals. The same can be gleaned from check-in websites and the postings on social media sites like Facebook. Taking a little caution in what you say online can go a long way in helping keep your home safe and secure. So too can a simple burglar alarm system. This infographic from credit sesame shows some of the issues in home security.
